Lisa & Tony : Wedding

Lisa & Tony : Wedding

I’m not sure if I can say that I’ve ever seen two people happier to get married. Really. The amount of excitement and buzz in the air was a magical thing to experience. Lisa and Tony were finally getting their big day.

I’ve traveled to attend weddings before, but this was the first time it was for a destination wedding. Needless to say, I was excited. “We’re going to Mexico!” I told Edwin when I got our invitation.

Then swine flu hit. And for a few short days, Lisa and Tony thought that they would have to postpone their big day. Lisa was clearly disappointed, but was handling it all with grace. Thankfully enough, swine flu fears were averted and the wedding was on!

Having a destination wedding was definitely a great way to celebrate. It was refreshing to be able to mingle with the other guests beyond just at the wedding, since we had all weekend to get to know each other. And with the excuse of turning the event into a vacation, people flew in from as far as Beijing and South Africa to enjoy a lovely weekend with a glowing couple. By the end of the weekend, I felt like I had gone to college with Tony, lived in South Africa with Lisa, and grew up with Lisa’s brother!

The newly minted Mr. & Mrs. Chen did a fabulous job keeping guests busy with fun events. Here are some of my favorite photos from the festivities…

Welcome to Mexico!

Tony’s cousin, Jeff, brought 70 of these colorful parasols with him all the way from Beijing for the wedding ceremony. Now that’s love!

Lisa couldn’t have been happier with her hair and makeup artist. She said she knew it would be good because he would do something, take a step back to assess his work, and then break into a little grin of approval at himself before continuing on. And he did a mighty fine job, if I do say so myself!

Okay, I know that the videographer is in the background of this photo. Does it bother me? Yes. But I still love this photo.

It was the cutest thing when Lisa and Tony rode up to the reception in this golf cart.

South of the Border

Edwin and I have never done the resort vacation before. Our vacations are typically not vacations – they’re trips where we’re trying to see and experience as much as possible. So it was a totally new and foreign (no pun intended!) concept for us to spend three nights at the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar resort in Los Cabos for a wedding weekend.

Now, there is plenty to do in Los Cabos, but a lot of it happens to involve being on a boat or in choppy waters. This is a problem for me since every day I age, I get more easily seasick. I’ve tried taking Dramamine, but it only served to knock me out. Because of my fear of getting sick, Edwin and I spent nearly all of our free time relaxing poolside at our resort. It was much how I would expect a vacation on a cruise boat would be – everything you could possible need in a self-contained area, which made me feel a little restless. I’m not sure if I got a lot of relaxing done (I woke up every morning and checked the clock before going back to sleep. It read 7:56am all three mornings I did this), but I definitely got some sun and did some leisure reading!

I did manage to sneak slightly off the property to snap a few photos…

Not once did we see people swimming in the ocean just outside the resort. Taking a look at the huge waves and how close they crashed to shore, we knew why it wasn’t the ideal place for a leisurely swim.

There are vendors who spend the whole day on the beach trying to get your attention to sell some of their wares. It’s clearly hard work with the baja sun beating down on them.

But the real reason we were in Cabo was to attend Lisa & Tony’s wedding! You may remember my post about their engagement shoot. I’ll be posting about their wedding soon, but for now, here’s a sneak peak at the weekend festivities…
