It started off with a gift. A good friend discovered I was planning a San Francisco photography weekend and asked if she could purchase a session for her (second oldest) sister’s family – they recently welcomed a new baby boy. I was delighted at such a thoughtful and lovely gift! And of course, why would I ever say no to a little one as adorable as this?
At about four months old, this little guy is one of the happiest babies I’ve met. And what’s there not to be happy about? He’s got plenty to eat, a full head of hair, and when he laughs, the cutest dimples (he gets it from his mama) appear.
I’m usually a full-color, bold and bright type of gal, but I do love me some black and white. A couple of weeks ago I went to the inspiring Who Shot Rock & Roll exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography, where many of the images on display were black and white. One of the most beautiful photos was a platinum palladium print of Mick Jagger, inspiring me to do an all black and white post. And I figured there wouldn’t be a better time to do this than with a newborn session.
While I love shooting all children, my favorite subject of late is my seven-month old niece. Yeah, I might be a little biased, but I can’t resist snapping photos of this trouble maker. She seems to love my camera – she’s endlessly fascinated by it, but is often a bit too curious and tries to eat it. Luckily I caught her one day while she was waking up for a nap and still a bit calm.
