Keeping up with the Joneses

Keeping up with the Joneses

It was just this past January when I took some photos of Oliver and his family for his one year birthday. At that time, he was still a baby – just one little tooth had grown in, he was still crawling around, and he wasn’t able to do more than a little bit of babbling. But just half a year later, my has he grown into a little man. I really almost couldn’t keep up with him, running around all over the place – I definitely got more of a workout than I bargained for.

Meet Alice

Meet Alice

After some shameless plugging from my husband (oh, the powers of Facebook), I was incredibly happy to be taking family photos for a long-time friend. Anne is the older sister of Joy, who was my very first friend when I moved to California. Needless to say, I’ve known these girls for the majority of my lifetime.

As a kid, I clearly remember looking up to Anne. She was the older sister of my best friend, and she had a old-time glamour about her – which she still does. And she’s managed to pass this glamour on to her daughter. Just like her name, Alice is dainty and graceful, even as a baby. I was thrilled to meet her when Anne and Jason were home over the holidays to visit their families.

Meet Caleb

Meet Caleb

“Now I feel kind of bad that my husband isn’t here,” Jenny said when we were about to start her portrait session. I couldn’t help but laugh, because she was so excited to take these photos while she and her son were visiting her parents that her poor husband was getting the boot. Although, I guess he was being represented by his adorable son!

It’s been many years since I last saw Jenny, but we have recently reconnected (of course, through Facebook. I mean, how else do people keep in touch these days??) When she mentioned that she’d be back in Orange County for a few days and wanted to set up some time for a photo session, I was more than happy to do so. Her son, Caleb, is two years old and loves trains and trucks. He was a little shy and serious when we started off and didn’t seem to like my camera, but loosened up when we took him to see some trains – good thing we had Old Towne Yorba Linda!

Meet Spencer

Meet Spencer

Tis the season for family holiday photos! I’ve had an unusually busy month for family photos and in the process, have had the pleasure of meeting some new little ones. Like this little man, Spencer. At a year and a half, this rugrat made a mobile subject that made me shoot extra quick in order to get him at a fleetingly still moment.

Spencer’s mom, Elizabeth, asked if we could do some family photos but in a less traditional setting than, say, in front of the family room fireplace. We ended up at the LACMA, which turned out perfect since it gave us enough room for Spencer to run around and do his thing. Like his grown-up outfit? It gets even cuter when you see what his dad is wearing.

Meet Rylan

Meet Rylan

A couple of years ago, I went to see The Kims of Comedy. I knew I was seeing a comedy show, but I didn’t expect to be so thoroughly entertained. One of the most memorable things about the show was when comedian Mike O’Connell got up on stage and started singing a ridiculous song about how cute he thinks Asian babies are and how he wants to hold one (if you’re actually interested, it’s at about the 3 min mark). Yes, I cried the first time I heard this because I found it so funny…but in my defense, Mike O’Connell was wearing a iridescent body suit and Ken Jeong was on stage with him at the time! I know, sometimes my humor may be a little strange, but I’m telling you, it really is funny.
