As the familiar sounds of harmonics and tuning wafted through the air, it was like I had gone back 10 years in my life. It was a long time ago, but that was the last time I had stood amidst an orchestra. This past weekend, I again felt the familiar energy and pulse of a group coming together to perform. And I have to admit, it’s definitely something that I’ve missed.
I was graciously invited to a local recording studio to document the first time Chris was recording a demo with a full orchestra. It was impressive, to say the least. Chris is an incredibly talented composer and to hear his work come to life in a recording studio was an amazing experience. Just the sheer size of the mixing board was a sight to behold, let alone trying to understand everything that was going on. Witnessing how the magic happens gave me a whole new appreciation for composition that goes far beyond the tedious Certificate of Merit tests I had to endure as a child.
Favorite shots from the day:
The daunting soundboard.
Giving some last minute direction.
One of the moments lightening up the morning was when someone told Chris that he loved the title of his piece.
Talking to the musicians in the studio.
And because I was developing an unhealthy fascination with the soundboard, here it is one more time.
Chris, I can’t wait to hear the final track! Best of luck!
